Objet 3d Printed Fashion Dresses

More Couture through 3d printing. MIT professor Neri Oxman, who explores organic forms through 3d printing, teamed up with Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen to produce these custom 3d printed couture. The dresses debuted during the 2013 Paris Fashion week.

Objet’s blog post reveals that the outfit was printed with the multi-material Objet Connex500. Each piece used flexible rubber overlaid with collections of rigid shells that mimic barnacles. With the Connex 500, each piece of the outfit could be printed in the same job. The video shows the layers being deposited, using the darker rubber both for flexibility and for subtle coloring.
